Authentic Hand-woven Complex Chinle Style Navajo Rug

Bio information on Navajo weavers.

Each Navajo rug from Bair's Indian Trading Company is hand-woven of 100% wool yarn on traditional upright looms by members of the Navajo Nation. Materials range from hand-carded, handspun, and natural color or vegetal dyed wool, to commercially cleaned, carded, spun, and dyed wool. Miniature Navajo rugs are likewise hand-woven of 100% wool that is generally respun commercial yarn. They are woven in the same manner as the full sized rugs and most are of tapestry quality (over 80 wefts per inch). All Navajo weavings offered for sale on our site have been woven by contemporary weavers in regional and non-regional styles. They have intact edging and selvage cords and corner tassles, and are without stains, fading, holes, or insect damage.

This is a complex Chinle style Navajo weaving by Betty Clyde

Similar to the Wide Ruins style but not done quite to the extreme in design or with as deep of vegetal colors, this complex Chinle rug was woven by Navajo weaver Betty W. Clyde.

Size: 24.5" by 35"

Colors: Though the photo doesn't show the full range of soft earth tone colors, we count 13, including dark chocolate brown, medium brown, camel, red terra cotta, dark rust, light brown taupe, muted yellow, white, 2 grays, and 3 blues.

The actual size of the serrate diamond design, above left, which runs horizontally across the top and the bottom of the rug is 4 7/8" high, while the size of the one above right which runs through the center of the weaving is 5.25" high. The colors are very close to the actual piece. The blue diamond in the image above right is actually more of an aqua blue hue.

The serrate design element above left is approximately 1.25" high. The color surrounding the small serrate design, shown on the images above left and right, is less gray and more of a gray taupe.

Note the subtle color changes from medium brown to dark rust in association with the muted yellow and dark brown.
