| Acoma pottery is traditionally made with gray or white clay tempered with volcanic ash and crushed pottery sherds. The elaborate decoration uses paint made from black hematite, an iron oxide mineral, and vegetal plant material, including beeweed juice and natural spinach. Other colors in traditionally made pots are from natural sources. Intricate geometric designs, flowers, birds and animals, and revival patterns of the Mimbres culture are all popular today. |
